so, after a friend of mine rekindled my interest in the game Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, I decided to share my opinion of the best familiars in the game. There are four roles in this game that familiars fall under: Tank, Attacker, Spell Caster, and Healer. I will be listing my opinion of the best familiar for each role for all four characters.

NOTE: the monster Dinoceros WILL NOT be on this list.

The reason for this is because it is a cheap, overpowered monster. It is so cheap that if someone use it, they're basically saying that they suck at this game.

With that out of the way, let's begin with the best familiars for our protagonist:

Oliver!

Oliver has a proficiency with familiars of the Vermes, Mite, and Dracones genus. This gives him a fairly wide variety of monsters for you to experiment with for each of the four roles. The four monsters I chose for each role are from the Vermes genus.

Tankard:

Whippersnapper is the best tank familiar for Oliver. it has high defensive stats and in its third stag, Claptrap, it can learn some healing tricks to help it stay standing. Whippersnappers are found in the Deep Dark Wood.

Attacker:

Sillymanders are one of the best choices for Oliver's attacker. they're fast, can hit hard, and have a wide variety of tricks to utilize. You should have it become a Pyromander for its third stage due to its other form, Petramander, having a weakness to physical attacks. Sillymanders can be found in the Vault of Tears

Spell Caster and Healer:

Oroboros are very good choices for Oliver's spell casters and healers. They have high magic stats and great mobility to boot. For the third stage, your spell casting Oroboros should become an Obscuroboros while your healer Oroboros should become a Fluoroboros. Oroboros can be found on the Rolling Hills, not too far from the city of Ding Dong Dell.

With Oliver done and out of the way, it's time for our second, and only playable female character:

Maru! (Esther in English)

Once Maru joins your party and you get the Heart-Winning Harp from Solomon, you can start collecting new familiars for your party. Her favored genii are Aquatica, Aves, and Flora. All three genii are used in my choice for her best team.

Tank:

Lumberwood is hands down the best tank in the entire game, having insanely high defensive stats. The final stage for the Lumberwood depends on what you want it to do. If you want it to be able to heal the party, go with Umberwood. If you want it to draw enemy fire, go with Wildwood. Lumberwood can be found on an island, called No Longer Mine, just south of the continent that the city of Hamelin resides.

Attacker:

Kuni

Hoorays are very strong attackers, and probably the best one available in Maru's favored genii. with good attack speed and mobility, high attack and defense, and a large pool of attacking tricks, they're a powerful ally on the battlefield. Hoorays can be found in the sea south of the Summerlands, around Castaway Cove.

Spell Caster:

Sleepeafowls are surprisingly strong spell casters, and can learn tricks of every element in the game! With that strong element diversity and the Defend command, they're invaluable allies. They're best off turning into Wimpeafowls due to a higher magic stat. Sleepeafowls are found on the Rolling Hills, around Ding Dong Dell.

Healer:

Napcaps are Maru's best healer familiar due to the fact that they're super agile, learn several tricks that inflict status ailments in the first form, and can learn several attacking tricks in their third forms. The healing tricks are learned in the second stage, Duncecap. Napcaps are found in the Golden Grove.

And now for our third character, our gunslinging thief:

Jairo! (Swaine in English version)

Jairo is absolutely invaluable if you use alchemy (like me) as he can steal super rare alchemy ingredients from monsters, making it MUCH easier to create the super useful gear you'd normally get very late in the game. Jairo also learns several skills to inflict status ailments on your enemies. Jairo favors Bestiae, Automata, and Mortui.

Tank:

Monoliths are excellent tanks, second only to Lumberwoods, in terms of stats. Monoliths have a resistance to physical attacks and no weaknesses on top of their high defenses. They can boosts their own defenses and in the Third form of Paleolith, they can revive fallen allies. Monolith are found near Castaway Cove.

Attacker:

Boneheads are powerful and sturdy attackers, having a resistance to physical attacks and the Psyche Up!->Go Wild! command. Once you turn them into the Third Stage form Bone Baron, they can wade through battles as though they were buzzsaws on legs. Boneheads are found in the Shimmering Sands desert.

Spell Caster:

Wisps are very powerful spell casters with a good pool of Dark and Fire elemental tricks. The third stage Kill-o'-the-Wisp is the better choice due to a higher magic stat and the ability to learn a Storm element trick.

Jairo has no healer familiar

Due to spoiler reasons, I can't reveal who the fourth and final character is, but I will still cover his best familiars. His favored genii are Daemonia, Nymphae, and Minima.

Slot

Tank:

Potty (ha ha) is the best tank available to the fourth character. With great defense and an even better magic defense, it's more than capable of handling its job. I recommend turning it into a Hot Pot for its third stage, due to it learning Fire element tricks to go with its collection of Water and Dark tricks. Potties are found in the seas southeast of the Summerlands.

Attacker:

Lightshade is the best attacker available to the fourth character. with Psyche Up!->Go Wild!, it can do its job effectively. To help it in battle, it learns several tricks that inflict status ailments such as Blind and Poison. Lightshades are found in the Shimmering Sands desert.

Spell Caster:

Turbandit is a very poweful spell caster. it learns a plethora of Fire based tricks and in one of its third forms, Turban Legend, it learns Water based tricks to compliment its collection of Fire based tricks. Turbandits are found in the Shimmering Sands desert

Healer:

Ni no kuni characters

Toko is a highly versatile healer, as it can also inhibit the enemies with tricks that cause Blind or Sleep. its two final forms have very helpful tricks. Tokotocold can learn a trick that heals the entire party, along with several attack tricks. Docotoko learns tricks that buff your allies and remove status ailments, along with a trick to revive fallen allies. Tokos are found on a tiny island, called Ugly Duckling Isle, just north of the Summerlands. be careful coming here early on as the other monsters hit VERY hard. Tokos also give HUGE amounts of EXP when defeated, so make sure to knock them down ASAP.

If you don't want to use a Toko for the fourth character's healer, there is another choice:

Relixx is a powerful spell caster and learns some great healing tricks in its third forms. The fourth character joins with the second stage form of Relixx, Electrixx. Relixxes are found on an island that is inaccessible until the end of the game.

I hope this guide was helpful. thank you for reading, and enjoy the beautiful game Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch! It is well worth playing!
